The National Civil Protection Coordination issued an alert for the theft of a source radioactive in the limits of Zumpango, State of Mexico.
The material corresponds to an industrial radiography equipment, transported in a stolen vehicle between the municipalities of Zumpango and Nextlalpan.
The alert report is maintained in Mexico City and nine states: Hidalgo, Querétaro, Michoacán, Guerrero, Guanajuato, Morelos, Tlaxcala, Puebla and Edomex.
If the radioactive source is located, Civil protection asked the population to notify the finding to 911
It also recommended not to manipulate the object or stay close, establish a security perimeter and shelter of at least 30 meters.
And make a record of the people who could have been located within the security radius.
“If the radioactive source is exposed or removed from its container, and you handle it or have direct contact, it could cause permanent injury,” authorities warned.
