The coordinator of the Civil Protection Institute of the State of Tabasco (IPCET), Mauro Wizing Negrín, confirmed a gas leak in a pipeline of Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), located in the community of San Fernando, in the municipality of Huimanguillo and adjoining with the municipality of Cárdenas.
He reported that it was around 3 in the morning this Friday that the accident report was received, and since then this situation has been attended to and followed up.
Wizing Negrín explained that Pemex personnel are already working in the leak area of this gas pipeline located in the San Fernando ejido in the municipality of Huimanguillo, on the banks of the Cárdenas-Coatzacoalcos federal highway.
He said that given the facts, vehicular traffic is being diverted towards the C-26 town, to go out to the Benito Juárez Sugar Mill.
The head of Civil Protection commented that around 110 people who were close to the gas leak area were evacuated and treated by authorities, and that only one minor was possibly injured by the strong smell.
On the other hand, the government secretary of the Tabasco entity, Guillermo del Rivero, confirmed the same facts and said that there is a deceased person, noting that “the first reports indicate that he smoked near the gas leak” external state official.
